local case study
SpainBayWa r.e. carried out a refurbishment project at the "Sonnedix El Peral II" solar park, located in the "Casa Los Arcos" area of Albacete. This is the first project of this type that the company has carried out in Spain. Built in 2008, the plant has an installed capacity of 2.18 MWp and was renovated in just four months.
The solar park is owned by Sonnedix, an international renewable energy producer with a total capacity of more than 9 GW in ten countries around the world.
Work was carried out on 50% of the installation, replacing both modules and inverters. Half of the thin-film modules were replaced with the latest generation of monocrystalline modules. This replacement made it possible to double the efficiency for the same installed power, while reducing degradation and increasing the guarantee. On the other hand, the inverters in poorer condition were analysed. As a result, half of the 20 modules were replaced with string modules, increasing the inverter efficiency by 4 percentage points (from 95% to 99%).
One of the challenges of this project was to keep the installation connected to the grid. Thanks to the work carried out by the company, 90% of the installation remained connected.
