Implementation of Identiflight to Support Birdlife
As part of our commitment to conserving biodiversity, we have implemented Identiflight at our Cluster Rueda Sur plant.
Identiflight is a stand-alone bird protection system with an advanced approach to stereoscopic technology. This innovative system has the ability to detect birds and identify their species in the wind farm environment, accurately recording flight paths and bird activity.
Identiflight can also send specific stop commands to wind turbines, targeting protected species with the aim of reducing the risk of collision.
Monitoring Our Impact on Biodiversity
We are working with the University of Córdoba (UCO) to monitor, assess and graphically document the effectiveness of our biodiversity conservation measures at the Alhendín solar plant. Our goal is to rigorously and objectively evaluate the impact of our actions and track progress in enhancing biodiversity within our areas of influence.
To this end, we will be using photo-trapping cameras, which will provide valuable insights into the local wildlife and how it responds to our conservation initiatives.
Local Wildlife Conservation
We are deeply committed to protecting and conserving biodiversity at our Alhendín solar plant, so we are intensifying our efforts to create a more favourable environment for local wildlife.
To this end, we plan to increase the number of drinking fountains, nests, perches and biodiversity offset areas. Additionally, we will establish a dedicated breeding and feeding area for the lesser kestrel, utilising a method known as “hacking” to support its conservation.
Based on research findings from the University of Córdoba, we plan to begin creating ponds in the first half of the year, along with the construction of two additional nesting towers.
Promoting Agrovoltaics with the European Union
BayWa r.e. has successfully secured €6.5 million in funding from the European Union’s LIFE (L’Instrument Financier pour l’Environnement) programme. These funds will go towards six of our Agri-PV projects under development, which are located in France, Spain, the Netherlands, Germany and Italy.
